CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Bibz, Brodart Books & Library Services Online Collection Development and Ordering Tool! Bibz has been redesigned to allow easier, more efficient collection development and book ordering for all libraries. Whether you work in a school library, an academic library, a single-site public library, or a large public library system, Bibz is flexible enough to meet the varying demands of the selection and ordering process.
Bibz lets you quickly and easily:
· Search for titles by keyword, phrase, ISBN, or Brodart Number.
· Search by multiple ISBNs, either entered manually or uploaded from an Excel spreadsheet.
· Save a search to perform repeatedly.
· Perform a Quick Search from any Bibz screen.
· Select titles individually or select multiple titles to add to your list.
· Apply a grid template to a title or multiple titles.
· Share a list with individual users or a family of other users.
· Manage your lists, including merging lists, copying or moving titles from one list to another, and checking for duplicate titles on other lists or in Order History.
· Submit an order to Brodart, if authorized.
For administrative users, Bibz provides the ability to:
· Add a new user and delete an existing user.
· Assign the processing profiles each user is authorized to use.
· Manage families of users to allow easy list sharing with a group.
· Create a grid template and manage existing grid templates.
· Update the values used to build a grid template.
Bibz allows multiple users to access a single list simultaneously. The "family" concept allows multiple families within a single library system. Your library can have one family for the juvenile selectors and a second family for the adult selectors. The families are separate, but can be managed by one Bibz Administrator from your library system, if necessary. Your Bibz Administrator is also in control of your families and adding and deleting users, and assigning processing options and list access privileges.
Another powerful feature of Bibz is the ability to specify branch distribution of the quantities you ordered. This "grid" ordering allows you to build and maintain any number of grid templates. You can assign different grid templates to various titles within a list or, with a single click, assign a single grid template to an entire page of up to 100 titles.
In addition, grid templates go beyond simple branch distribution. Your grid templates can include fund codes, collection codes, item types, and processing profiles. If you use a grid template when selecting titles, you can download MARC records that contain all of the grid template values which can be communicated to your integrated library system (ILS). You can define what grid template values are mapped to tags and subfields in the MARC records downloaded from Bibz. Simply communicate to Brodart the holdings tag/subfield and any special overrides.
