Boolean Search Operators (NOT) and (OR)

Bibz offers several search operators.  As noted above, the implied operator between the search criteria you specify is AND.

To exclude certain titles from the search results, enter the (NOT) search operator.  (NOT) and (OR) are not case sensitive.  Note that without the parenthesis, Bibz searches not and or as an additional search term.

Example:  To exclude Maurice Sendak from a search of authors with the last name Sendak, enter

Sendak (NOT) Maurice Sendak

in the Author field.

To search for titles that include antiques, but not collectibles, enter

antiques (NOT) collectibles

in the Title field.

If you enter

Robert Parker

in the Author field and

history (NOT) war

in the Title field, the search results include only titles that are written by Robert Parker that include the word history but DO NOT include the word war in the title.

You can exclude more than one term from the search.  For example, you could search for

Brown (NOT) Dale (NOT) David.

In addition, you can use the (OR) operator to limit the search.

Example:  You could search for titles by specifying Author

Dale Brown (OR) David Brown

The search results would include all titles by both of those authors.

You could search by specifying

bees (OR) hornets

in the Title field.  Any title that includes either of those words would be included in the search results.
